Why Hydrophilic?

PTFE is naturally hydrophobic (resistant to H2O). Why offer a hydrophilic (compatible with H2O) PTFE material that doesn’t offer one of its best features? Here’s why.

PTFE resists many harsh chemicals. Unfortunately, many of these chemicals need to be diluted with water. The PTFE will immediately stop these aqueous solutions from passing through the filters unless the PTFE is treated to become hydrophilic. Hydrophilic PTFE offers a material that holds up against harsh chemicals diluted in water.

  • * Housings are made of 100% polypropylene and are thermally bonded without adhesives.
  • * The inlet and outlet are a 7-13 mm stepped hose barb. The internal diameter of the disk filter also works with a standard luer slip syringe.
  • * Filtration of the 50mm disc filter is > 3 square inches.
  • * Max operating pressure is > 45 psi.
  • * Sterilize by autoclave using a cycle of 30 minutes at 123 degrees C at 1 bar. In place steam sterilization is not recommended. Perform an integrity test after autoclaving.
