Optitran membrane consists of 1% pure nitrocellulose supported by an inert polyester nonwoven material within the membrane. The support does not affect transfer conditions or results and gives the membrane exceptional handling characteristics, allowing it to be reprobed repeatedly.

The Optitran nitrocellulose membrane provides high sensitivity with very low nonspecific binding. Using standard nitrocellulose protocols, stringent washing and blocking conditions are not necessary. Optitran membranes combine flexibility, strength, and excellent signal-to-noise ratios, which are especially beneficial when experiments involve repeated stripping and reprobing.
