Nuclepore black dyed polycarbonate membranes are high performance membranes well suited for applications using epifluorescence microscopy. Black membranes greatly reduce background fluorescence, which results in improved microorganism and Particulate visibility. Using these membranes in combination with epifluorescence techniques, rapid enumeration of viable and nonviable microorganisms and Particulate matter can be conducted in 3 minutes or less. conventional culturing methods require incubation times of more than 24 hours. Use black track-etched membranes with epifluorescence techniques to achieve rapid, direct enumeration of microorganisms.

Features:

  • Polycarbonate track-etched membrane dyed black with Irgalan Black.
  • Flat, smooth surface assures surface capture of microorganisms and particles.
  • Extremely low nonspecific absorption.
  • Smooth, gridded PCTE membrane surface efficiently supports microorganism enumeration in a standard plate count
  • Irgalan black membranes for reduced background fluorescence in support of epifluorescence microscopy

Black Membranes for Rapid Standard Plate Count Results

Whatman Nuclepore membrane filters are compatible with the direct epifluorescent microscopy filter technique (DEFT), which allows microorganisms to be counted directly on a filter. DEFT can be conducted in under half an hour, sidestepping the standard > 24 hour process of incubating a microbial sample.

Whatman's irgalan black membranes greatly reduce background fluorescence, improving visibility and helping to distinguish microorganisms from other particulates.

Microscopic Membrane Filter

The microscopic membrane filters are made by track-etching – the polycarbonate is bombarded with radiation and chemically treated to create sharp, uniform filter pores. The PCTE membrane is designed to trap microbes efficiently, and can be more effective than other filter media for certain microorganisms.
